Development of nature based tourism in northern Montenegro

The main goal of this project is to assist the local authorities and local tourist entrepreneurs in developing nature based tourism in Northern Montenegro on a basis of sustainable use of the natural resources and in addition assist in further developing of the Hunting law and hunting grounds.

Montenegro is a country located in South-eastern Europe and it has a coast on the Adriatic Sea. It was earlier a part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and then Serbia-Montenegro, but it gained its independence in 2006. The size of the country is only 13.812 km2.

The tourism industry in Montenegro is well developed along the Adriatic costal line, but in the northern part of the country the development has not come so far. Northern Montenegro has good natural resources in order to develop Nature Based Tourism products such as hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, horseback riding, hunting, fishing and local culture. However the country, and in particular the northern region of Montenegro needs development regarding logistics, product development and specific and general training regarding tourism.

Activities
The main activities in the project are capacity building and development of new Nature Based Tourism products in cooperation with the local tourist entrepreneurs. Assistance in marketing Nature Based Tourism in Montenegro trough websites and test tours with tourist agencies and tourist magazines. Assist Ministry of Agriculture in developing new bylaws to the new hunting law and assist the Ministry of Agriculture and The Forestry Directorate in developing Hunting Grounds.
